Glancing over her shoulder, Lumiere could see the look of shock on Frost's face at Blaze's question, and the alpha felt that same feeling being echoed throughout her veins. The ice and fire packs had been created because of their hatred for each other. How could the fire pack possibly stoop so low as to request an alliance? This problem must really have been quite terrible. Blaze might as well have brought a mouthful of roses, dropped them at Lumiere's feet, and stated that he loved her.
Lumiere shifted her weight from one paw to another, nervously trying to come to a quick decision. That was one of the many requirements of an alpha: they needed to be good at making decisions as fast as possible.
The trouble was, in this case, the way in which she answered Blaze's question had the potential to forever effect the packs. If she said yes and it saved them, she would be forever known as the savior of the packs. On the other hand, it could not work out at all. The packs had always been enemies, after all. She didn't want to have that blood stain on the pelt of her legacy for generations.
This was the sort of question that needed special thinking, and not just on her part. What she really needed was to host a council with Malita and the elders of the pack to come to a decision. But how could she say that to Blaze.
And now that Blaze wasn't caught in the hole, he could escape. Was he going to?
Somewhere in side Lumiere knew that all he said was true. She knew in her heart of hearts that the packs would need to work together to fix this problem. But would the rest of her pack understand, or would they be convinced that she was a traitor? She looked to Malita for assistance. The beta looked as uncertain as she was. Their eyes met, and a look of understanding passed between them. They would have to accept Blaze's request for an alliance.
"Blaze, alpha of the fire pack," Lumiere began, now confident in her decision, "I, Lumiere, alpha of the ice pack, on behalf of my pack, agree to form an alliance with the fire pack."
Blaze looked relieved, but Lumiere wasn't finished.
"But! Only under certain circumstances. I make my offer: this alliance extends only as far as investigating the issues at stake and coming to a peaceful conclusion about what shall be done to fix the problem. At that point, either pack may remove itself from stated alliance, or we shall choose to extend this relationship.
"That is my offer to you, fire pack; take it or leave it."

Blaze's heart skipped with momentary happiness. He was half expecting Lumiere to turn down his offer. It was only a delicate agreement; a partial alliance. He knew he was taking a risk partnering with an old enemy, but perhaps, they would be stronger united. He was doubtful as to if his pack would take kindly to the news, but it was of the upmost import that they cooperate with his descision, because he felt it was right. He was doing this only for them, because he loved them and did not want them to suffer on his account. "I accept your acceptance," he said, acknowleging Lumiere with a tip of his head. He was ready to yank the alliance at a moment's notice. "As part of the truce, I suggest we inform one another if anything particularly... fishy is going on." Velox stiffened beside him, probably remembering the same disturing sight.

Oh yeah! The fish! Velox remembered as Blaze was talking. "I'll Be back!" He shouted as he ran back toward the tree. After a few minutes of scrabbling through the branches, He jumped down and ploped something at Lumiere's paws. "Thought we would need this"

Lumiere drew back her lips in irritation at the beta's spunk. He just didn't know when to say when, did he?
She let her gaze fall down to the object between her paws, and tried not to show her disgust.
"So, this is the fish you speak of?" she asked. "Why do you bring it to me? Why do you drop it at my feet?"
She glanced at Velox, who was starting to draw back in shame.
"Blaze, why have you picked this fool as your beta?" The moment it was out of her mouth she knew she shouldn't have said it. It was wrong to insult another alpha like that. Despite being enemies, a certain amount of respect had to be shown.
"I-I-" she started. But she couldn't go on. The fierce and angry stare of Blaze was penetrating her very bones. Velox looked halfway between shame and anger. Malita was simply in a state of shock. Lumiere hung her head, not knowing what to say.

"This fool beta is my pride and joy," Blaze snarled, fur bristling in anger. He wanted to rip Lumiere's head off for daring to say anything like that. He was still on ice pack territory, though, and it would be a bad idea to launch an attack. At the moment, though, it did not seem like a foul choice. He tried to control the overwhelming swell of anger and managed to say, "You would best not be insulting my pack, as you have a reputation to uphold. You prideful ice pack wolves always speak of how high and mighty you are, but as of now, you have become the weaker one, not I.
What was I thinking? How could I ally with a group that has a leader who is lacking in character? If they do not posess the respect and honor to regard me and my pack as an equal, then how am I to know if they will have the commitment, sincerity and integrity to uphold the truce?" Blaze refused to ally with someone who would disrespect him, his beta, and his pack. It was against his moral code.
"You have made a dumb descision. The fire pack disaccepts your agreement in our mutual unity. You are the fool, for you dishonor your ancestors." Blaze spat. He turned to Timber, and gave him a small nod. It was time to leave.

"Dishonor?" Lumiere was outraged. "I am the one who dishonors my ancestors?"
Who was Blaze to tell her her decision was dumb? Not only that, but she just loved the was he said "disaccepts your agreement in our mutual unity", as if they, the ice pack, had been the ones who had come crawling onto their enemies territory, simply begging for assistance.
If she were to launch an attack now, all would be in her favor. The fire pack was trespassing on her territory, and they were the ones who would miss out the most by the poisoned river. They were the ones who had wanted help in the first place. The ice pack could always go upstream into their own territory, to the lake, the source of the water, where it wouldn't be polluted.
All of this passed through her head in a mere second. Before she could think anymore, her powerful and deep-rooted instincts were forcing her forward, slowly but steady. She didn't try to fight them.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Malita, who looked unsure as to what to so. Clearly, if her alpha was ready to fight, she should be too, Lumiere thought; but then realized Malita must not think fighting was the best solution. Lumiere could see her point, but knew she wouldn't be able to fight her sudden blood-curdling hatred towards Blaze for much longer.

Blaze sensed the agitation in the air like lightning. It crackled and hung in the air, prepared to snap and strike at any moment. This was a bad place to start a fight. They were out of their element, without reinforcments and cut off from all communication. He and Velox needed to depart from this situation immediately.
He wanted so badly to reply, 'Yes, Lumiere, you dishonor your ancestors. Their dishonorment from you has no end!', but that would only further provoke a fight, no matter how appealing. Instead, he only said: "I shouldn't have tried to forge an alliance with your pack anyways. Everyone knows we will never be able to make it work, even our forefathers and foremothers."
Blaze did not know what his pack would do. They were going to have to tough this one out alone. "Come, Velox." he gestured with his tail, and he turned to leave.

Lumiere couldn't take it anymore. Her feisty nature didn't help, either. Without a backwards glance at Malita, she lunged at Blaze, knocking him off his paws and pinning him to the ground. She lowered her muzzle so Blaze could feel her warm breath on his face. She knew he had the strength to at least fight back, but the risk of a fight deep in his opponents' territory was too great. Instead he met her gaze, waiting for her to speak.
"You don't say what you think, fool," Lumiere growled. "I see it in your eyes - your opinion of me is nothing but positive. You think I'm such an ignorant, troublesome youth. I'm not the wolf I once was, Blaze, and it's time you and your pack realized that."
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Malita growling at Velox, their eyes level and filled with anger for each other.
She turned her gaze back to Blaze. "You're not a very good liar. Well, I'll teach you how to hide your thoughts!" She raised her paw to strike the fire pack alpha.

Her lip curled, Malita snarled. Velox returned the action. Out of the corner of her eye, Malita saw Lumiere raise her paw. "You're not a very good liar. Well, I'll teach you how to hide your thoughts!" she screamed.
Malita and Velox both froze. They watched Lumiere and Blaze, unsure of what to do. They watched in mixed emotions as Lumiere's claws stiffened as she prepared to strike....

Blaze's hairs on the back of his neck stood straight and stiff. He tasted pure rage coming off of Lumiere behind him in waves. Her ice colored eyes burned at his pelt. He paused, forepaw poised in midair before him, yet to puncture the snow. Blaze stare at the ground, the icy wind piercing and ruffling his fur. Lumiere's hot glare felt hard and dangerous. His gut feelings were quiet and cautious. The unusual silence made him feel uneasy. He stood still, back to the ice wolves.
Blaze lowered his paw. It crunched into the snow and sank in. The wind blowed. Lumiere stared. His muscled tightened , ears pricked. "You're not a very good liar. Well, I'll teach you how to hide your thoughts!" Lumiere snarled.

Lumiere's paw was whistling through the air toward blaze's face. "No!", Velox howled and dashed forward. /POW/ (action noise) He got hit by all the force behind Lumiere's attack, causing him to fly into a tree. "Ouch!" seemed to be the thought in everyone's mind as his head connected with a loud "THUD".

"Velox!" Blaze shouted. Velox was laying down on the ground at the base of the tree, motionless. He swung around and threw himself into Lumiere, overtaken by rage. Lumiere didn't have time to react- he bowled her over and wrestled her to the ground, bloodthirsty. He snarled and closed his jaws over her neck, biting, clawing, rolling, fighting. No one messed with his pack. One second she was standing, the next she was on her back.
Lumiere was not weak, however. She put up a good fight, not lacking in speed. Blaze and Lumiere danced between offensive and defensive, blind to everything around them. All there was was the craze of the battle. The world was a mute, white blurr.
After the fast tossle, he locked the pair into a standstill, Lumiere temporarily at a submissive position. "Do that again!" He struck like a viper, teeth clacking at Lumiere's ear. Her ears did not press back in fear. She only grunted and kicked Blaze off, pinning him down. Blaze was now staring into the hate-filled eyes of the ice pack leader.

[[Don't forget, my character's name isn't Eclipse, it's Lumiere! I fixed your post.]]
Lumiere stood on top of Blaze, both the wolves panting hard. Her teeth were bared, but she and he both knew that they couldn't keep up this fight for much longer. Even the strongest of wolves needed a break now and again. So there she stood, the alpha of the pack of ice, and there he laid, alpha of the pack of fire, doing no more than looking daggers at each other.
What an onlooker wouldn't have understood was what passed between the two wolves at that moment. For generation upon generation the ancestors of the two wolves that stood there today had feuded. Hating each other ran in their very veins, and there was no way to change that. All offenses aside, the two wolves knew that for them to survive they must ally their two packs, but the habits that their ancestors had laid were proving that impossible to accomplish.
As Lumiere gazed hatefully into Blaze's eyes, she pondered this. They may have stood there for an hour for all she knew, but it took time to consider the future of the fire and ice packs. Malita stood looking on, unsure of what to do, but Lumiere wasn't concerned about her beta right now.
As they stood there, Lumiere slowly let her gaze soften. Not to a point that an onlooker would see much of a difference, but Blaze saw. Suddenly, it wasn't his sworn enemy that was staring down upon him, but just another wolf. That's all they were, after all. Wolves. They all were born, they all lived, they all died. However much power they liked to imagine they had in their lifetimes didn't really matter as far as the circle of life was concerned. Compared to the broader spectrum, their lives were short; meaningless. It was what they did with that life that counted.
In that instant, Lumiere and Blaze both realized that to make a difference, they would have to ignore their ancestors and the feuds they had started, and do what was really best for the ones who were living now, and the ones to come. After all, what did a bunch of dead wolves have to do with anything?
The only problem was, what would the other wolves say?
They didn't understand that there was only one way to save themselves.

The air of the battle sighed and evaporated like rain. Lumiere's eyes became a soft blue as Blaze stared for countless heartbeats. They both understood that this was not going to help solve their problems. "What are we doing?" Blaze breathed. "We're making a mistake."
Was it really the right thing, to break countless ages of feuding in this single moment? It had seemed to him as a cub, that the right thing was to fight. Now, he thought, is there really a reason? Were we really born to kill each other, to fight to the end, in an endless war of hate?
Blaze glanced over at Malita, who looked on with a confused, questioning look. Lumiere could finish him off at any moment she wished, so why was she hesitating? Lumiere cast Malita a signal of resolution, which Malita tenatively obeyed.
Lumiere raised her head and unpinned Blaze from the battle-touseled snow. He straightened himself and slowly slinked to Timber, who was collapsed at the base of the tree. He looked conscious and alright to Blaze. He prodded the beta with his paw, and licked his nose. Timber began to stir.
He looked behind him, where the ice wolves watched him silently. They seemed like they were in a different world. He had been taught that the ice wolves were a group set apart, the fire pack's eternal enemy. However, we both shared this world forever, no matter how different. It was time to make a change.

Lumiere knew what they must do, but she had no idea how she was going to explain that to the wolves of her pack, whose vision was so terribly clouded.
But she would have to deal with that later. Now the time came to make a truce, like they had originally planned. Yet there was something different about it this time. This time, the alphas were going into the truce with a greater knowledge of the importance of what they were about to do.
Lumiere locked eyes with Blaze, and slowly lowered her head, not breaking the eye contact. Malita gasped slightly, not understanding. Then Blaze responded to her sign of submission with his own bowed head, proving that they were equals with respect for one another.
"Blaze, alpha of the fire pack," Lumiere said, lifting her head and lowering her huanches into a more comfortable position, "I, Lumiere, on behalf of the pack of ice, agree, once more, to ally myself and my pack with yours."
