Blaze cautiously minded himself about the mossy river rocks; leaping from one to the other on his way across the river. Of course, he didn't intend to exactly cross the river, because although the truce between the ice and fire packs had been forged did not mean that old scars had been soothed or that he had the right to intrude onto ice pack territory. So instead, today he was going to the river island, the no man's land between the territories.
The island itself was off limits to hunting or the exploration of wolves at all, but at times in the past it had been used for a meeting place for the representatives of both packs, and that use was why he had come. The meeting was not pre-arranged, but he figured it would not be difficult to make contact with the ice pack.
Blaze made the final leap for the shore of the island, but fell short and a shock of icy water penetrated his paws. The island was by no means large at all, and not too small, either. However, you could easily imagine it becoming crowded if members of any pack were given access to it. Frustratingly enough, but quite unsurprisingly, it was covered in extremely dense undergrowth, making Blaze's trek to the center all the more challenging. Through tugging and burrowing, and quite a few scratches, he made it through the brambles and reeds to a clearing in the center. Only to find that if he had moved a few paces to the left he could've seen an opening in the brush and avoided it all.
The clearing where Blaze now stood was devoid of trees and prickly plants; a wide depression in the ground kept all but the most moisture-loving plant life from growing there. At this time, there were many clusters of miniature toadstools, save for some moss and the rich, damp soil.
Now, to gain the attention of Lumiere. Blaze thought. And even if she wasn't nearby and someone else answered his call, he could send for her. He figured a howl would do the job perfectly, for long-distance communication. He had never actually tried to contact the ice pack this way, but it was worth a try, right?
Blaze raised his head and drew energy from the earth, and let out a long, loud howl which vibrated through the air, deep and distinct. Blaze awaited a response, and possibly even a visitor.

[I can do this cause Velox is in a flashback]
Trailing Blaze was the hardest thing he had done in all his life. Cautiously following him from camp, through the forest, and to the river was relatively easy (harder than a rabbit, but easier than that pack of wild dogs that had run in a few years ago)
{[I MIGHT make an rp about that, not sure yet]}
When Blaze started toward the island however, a tough decision had to be made. 'If I swim across the river, it'll be really cold.... But if I go across the rocks, I'll have to go after Blaze is already on the island to start.' He decided to swim.

Adsil's ears pricked at the sound of a howl. What the... she thought. The sound had come from the river, just a little ways from where she was. She jogged the short distance to the bank of the river and looked around until she spotted the source of the sound.
Blaze was on the island in the middle of the river: No man's land. He hadn't seen her yet. He gazed around, his eyes roaming around the bushes and shrubs on the ice pack's side of the river.
She decided he had waited long enough for a response."What do you want?" She barked. Just because they were allies, that didn't mean she had to be nice. Blaze jumped sightly, then looked at her. He didn't respond.
"Well?" She barked again. "What do you want??"

Blaze blinked away his surprise and tried to gather his thoughts long enough to present an answer. Focusing on the she-wolf through the trees, he made out the crisp white coat of Adsil. Her seemingly turquoise eyes bored into him, awaiting his response.
Blaze cleared his throat and raised his voice loud enough for her to hear him over the churning river waters. "I was seeking counsel with Lumiere. It's important, and it concerns both packs, so I need to speak with Lumiere before any action is taken. May you please fetch her for me, or grant me permission to enter your territory?" Blaze did not want to seem like a threat to Adsil, so he tried to maintain the most trustworthy, innocuous tone as he could. However this turned out, he hoped it was for the best.

Adsil looked at Blaze, then blinked. What shall I do... She thought. "Well," She started, then stopped. She thought about what she was going to say. Then she started again.
"I shall fetch Lumiere for you. But, as you know, you are not allowed on our territory with out her permission, so you must stay on the island. I will be back shortly." After a curt nod from Blaze, Adsil turned and trotted off in the direction of the pack. Before she lost sight of the island, she looked back at Blaze, sitting there, waiting for her to come back with Lumiere. She turned her back and ran off to find Lumiere.
She reached the camp just in time to see Lumiere come out of her den. "Lumiere!" She called out. Adsil raced up to her. "Blaze is on the island. He wishes to speak with you. He says it's important, that it concerns both packs." Adsil took a breath, and looked at Lumiere.

Lumiere was strolling out of her den, soaking up the warm morning sunlight on her pelt. Warmer weather was coming at last!
No sooner had she left her den than Adsil came running up to her, slightly out of breath. "Lumiere! Blaze is on the island. He wishes to speak with you. He says it's important, that it concerns both packs." Adsil met her eyes and waited expectantly.
What could Blaze possibly want from her? She sighed. More decisions, more decisions. Life as an alpha is certainly not easy, especially in these hard times, she thought to herself. She didn't say that out loud. Her packmates needn't be troubled by anything else.
"The island, you say? Lead me to him."

"Lead me to him," said Lumiere. Adsil nodded and trotted off in the direction of the island. As they reached the banks, Adsil trotted ahead to see if he was still there.
She got to the edge and looked around, spotting Blaze sitting patiently on the island. She let out a low bark to let him know she had come back. He looked up just as Lumiere walked up. Lumiere and Blaze gazed at each other.
Adsil waited.

Blaze waited, and finally the two arrived near the river. He watched as the two nimbly crossed the rocks, and plunged themselves through the brush without any sort of trouble, which made him feel slightly ashamed of his beautiful entrance to the island in comparison. The two gathered in the small, clear center of the island with him, and he wondered if Adsil should hear what he had to say, or if it was strictly confidential alpha business. At last he determined that it would be alright if she stayed, in the case that Lumiere would relay what he was to tell her anyways. Maybe. It all depended on if an agreement could be reached.
Blaze nodded to the two females, and he motioned for them to make themselves comfortable with the tip of his nose. He settled on his haunches in the slightly damp soil, which to him gave off a strong scent of rich earth. Blaze got to the point right away: "I feel that we need to investigate the source of the water problem. It's clearly the water that is causing our problems, with the poor health of the land and water, the fish as well. We can perhaps even connect it to the sickness that has ravaged through our packs and taken the lives of our weaker members. We will not be safe unless we can find out what has happened upstream, in the mountains, to cause all of our troubles. "I propose that we send a small expedition to the source of the river, and return to report what has happened. From there, we may decide to take action and see what we can do to mend this situation. The patrol should consist of a few representatives from each pack, perhaps two members each. The rest will stay behind."
Blaze awaited Lumiere's answer.

"I'll go!" Called Velox, jumping out of the underbrush. "I've always wanted to explore the river. And anyway, you can't go. It would be my duty as the Beta." Waiting for his words to sink in, Velox remembered, "Oh and Blaze, could you watch over Tasha for me?

A crash coming from the underbrush made Blaze nearly jump out of his skin. Seeing that it was only Velox gave him only the slightest relief, but then he realized in alarm that it was Velox who was there. Why was he here? He wasn't supposed to be! How much had he heard? "I'll go!" Velox exclaimed. Oh, great. The obnoxious lug had heard everything. Of course, Velox's command was essentially collateral, but he did not choose to share everything that he was to do with him at all times. Especially not this, when he didn't even know if Lumiere would consent to his proposal. Blaze had originally planned only to tell Velox of this if Lumiere had agreed.
"I've always wanted to explore the river. And anyway, you can't go. It would be my duty as the Beta." Velox added. Yes, it was true that Blaze could not go. But this did not mean that Velox could simply by default. Some would need to stay with the pack, while the selected representatives could scout upstream. At least one of the leaders would need to stay, if not both. Favorably, Blaze would send lesser members, not the leaders, who were needed at home.
All of this went through Blaze's head in the moments after Velox's statement. Blaze masked his surprise. He was angry partially, but he figured Velox would need to know eventually, as a beta. Velox then said: "Oh, and Blaze, could you watch over Tasha for me?"
Blaze took a breath. He wanted to say many things, and but he knew that they would be for naught. He might as well include Velox in the discussion, however frustrated he may be. "Velox, you need to stay with the pack and your mate. She is far along in her gestation, and should be expecting pups very soon. I would not want you to miss the birth of your first litter of pups. Your obligation lies here. You may not go. I am sorry." Blaze did not want to put a damper on Velox, and his courage and willingness to volunteer on a possibly dangerous misssion was certainly admirable, but there were things he had to do. "Back to what I was saying," Blaze said, turning the attention back to the original issue. "What do you say, Lumiere? Adsil?"
